This Privacy Policy describes how YT Translate ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our website, mobile applications, and API (the "Service").

By accessing or using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

Definitions

Personal Data: Information that identifies or can be used to identify an individual, such as email address.
Technical Data: Information about your device and browser, such as IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifiers.
Usage Data: Information about how you use the Service, such as pages visited, actions taken, and time spent.
Non-personal Data: Data that does not identify you individually, including aggregated or anonymized information.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only the minimum information necessary to operate the Service, together with usage data for analytics.
Technical and usage data are collected to improve the Service and are not linked to individual users.

2. Browser Extension

We offer a Chrome browser extension that uploads translated subtitle tracks to your own videos through the YouTube Studio interface. When you use the extension:

Subtitle content: the extension reads the source subtitle tracks of the videos you select in YouTube Studio and sends them to our API solely to produce the translations you requested. Translated tracks are delivered back to your browser and uploaded to your channel. If you also choose to translate the video's title and description, that text is sent to our API the same way and the translations are written back to your video's localizations.
Authentication: your personal API key is stored locally in your browser storage. The key is obtained by linking the extension to your account via a one-time pairing code and is transmitted only to our API.
Settings and queue state: your language preferences and the upload-queue state are stored locally in your browser so that interrupted uploads can be resumed.
Diagnostics: if an automated upload step fails, the extension reports a technical error event to our API (the failed step, the interface element involved, the video identifier, and the error message) so we can fix the automation. These reports contain no personal information.
Installation signal: once, when the extension is installed, it sends our API a randomly generated installation identifier and the extension version, so that we can see how many installations reach the linking step. This identifier is not tied to your account, your channel or any content, and it is removed when you uninstall the extension.
The extension does not collect your browsing history, does not access pages outside studio.youtube.com, and does not sell or share any data with third parties.

Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored extension data. You can also unlink the extension from your account at any time in the extension settings; unlinking revokes its API key on our servers.

3. Third-Party Services

We use third-party APIs and analytics tools that may collect technical information:

4. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies for analytics and to improve the Service. You can manage or disable cookies in your browser settings.

5. Log Data

In case of errors, we may collect log data such as IP address, browser type, operating system, date and time of use, and other technical information. This data is used only for diagnostics and service improvement.

6. Data Deletion

You have the right to request deletion of all your data at any time.

Deletion timeline:

If you request deletion through our service: all data will be permanently deleted within 7 calendar days

What gets deleted:

Your user account and profile information
All video translations, captions, and related data
Billing history and payment references
Language preferences and settings

After deletion, this action cannot be undone. Your data on YouTube itself (uploaded translations, captions) will not be affected.

7. Data Protection

We implement industry-standard security measures (such as encryption and access control) to protect your data from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure. Data is retained only as long as necessary to provide the Service. Some technical or non-personal data (such as public video identifiers) may be retained to improve the Service.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. If changes are material, we will notify you by email or prominent notice on the Service.
